Cairngorm acquires Sentry Doors

Cairngorm Capital has made further moves in the timber products sector with the acquisition of fire and security door manufacturer Sentry Doors.

The agreement is designed to accelerate Doncaster-based Sentry’s growth in the timber fire and security doorset market and was prompted by the decision of Sentry’s founder and MD Gordon Yates and his wife Carolyn to be less involved in the day-to-day running of the business.

Sentry’s 32,000ft2 manufacturing facility supplies products to the social housing, public sector, commercial and residential markets. Its products carry third party accreditations from BWF Certifire and BM TRADA Q-Mark.

“Sentry Doors is one of the most knowledgeable and trusted names in the industry, with all of the attributes that are important to us when we partner with a business – a compelling product range, deep technical know-how and exceptional customer service,” said Stuart Whiteford, Cairngorm Capital’s investment director.

“We are particularly interested in firms that are technically focused, experts in their field, add value to their customers and possess strong growth prospects.”

“I wanted an investor who would be a good custodian of Sentry Doors in the future and who would provide opportunities for our exceptional employees,” said Gordon Yates, Sentry’s MD.

Mr Yates will continue to advise the company, while general manager Ty Aziz is promoted to MD, supported by Jon Gatfield, who joins as executive chairman.

Cairngorm’s National Timber Products Group business includes Thornbridge Sawmills, North Yorkshire Timber, Rembrand Timber and Arnold Laver. It also owns Parker Building Supplies and Building Supplies Online.
