Ecobuild: Sustainable materials platform launched

22 March 2014

Ongreening, a new online green building platform, chose an eyecatching timber structure for its launch at Ecobuild.

The gridshell pavilion, designed by Ramboll, was made from birch plywood laths supplied by DHH, with an OSB floor from Coillte Panel Products. It was one of the few large, showcase structures at this year's show.

Ongreening is an online catalogue of sustainable building products, green rating systems and green-rated projects.

"It's the first search engine of its kind in the world," said CEO and founder Alfonso Senatore.

At present there are 10,000 products on the platform and that could rise to 50,000 over the next two years.

"Contractors spend so much time identifying products and making sure they meet green schemes so why not put something together than links all products and green building schemes. And links manufacturers, designers and the construction industry," said Mr Senatore.

He added that timber was a big part of Ongreening and it was chosen for the pavilion because the organisation wanted a material that could be recycled.

The structure will feature at other exhibitions and events, before being used to make furniture and finishes at the organisation's London office.
