Ship Ahoy!

29 October 2018

Scotline has just launched its latest vessel, the Scot Carrier, which will be the largest ship in the company’s fleet

Friday September 14 was a big day for shipping company Scotline. On that day a new ship, the Scot Carrier, was launched at Royal Bodewes Ship Yard in Groningen, Holland.

She is the first of two sister ships to be launched with Royal Bodewes and she will be the largest ship in the Scotline fleet with a DWAT of 4,800mt. She is expected to be fully operational and delivered in November 2018.

Scott Carrier has been built to comply with all the latest legislation, including provisions to be ready for the ballast water treatment system. The Scot Carrier will have a length of 89.98m, a beam of 15.2m, a maximum sailing draft of 5.68m and cubics of 235,000ft3 (6,650m3).

The ship will have a hold depth of just under nine metres in height and will be container fitted and ice class 1B, which is important for Scotline’s Baltic customers.

Scott Carrier will be powered by a MaK engine and, like the rest of the Scotline fleet, will sail under the British flag and be classed under Lloyd’s Register.

The ship is the most recent acquisition to Scotline’s fleet of nine owned vessels and five ships on long-term time charter. Its sister vessel, the Scot Explorer, which will have a DWAT of 4,785mt, will launch in the third quarter of 2019.

“We are always looking for opportunities to enhance our fleet, to better serve our customers with the most reliable service,” said Jon Millatt, commercial manager.

Scotline runs a modern fleet of coasters serving northern Europe, with regular routes between Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Norway, the Baltic states, the Netherlands, France and the UK.

Cargoes vary from forest products and bulk cargoes to project cargoes and many others.

“With fully owned terminals in Rochester and Inverness and an exclusively-operated fleet of modern ships we are able to offer our customers an all-in-one service of shipping, stockholding and distribution, tailored specifically to their needs,” said Mr Millatt. “Scotline also fixes market cargos for our vessels through our network of contacts worldwide.”
