Anti-biomass campaigners to lobby Green Investment Bank

27 October 2014

Environmental campaigners and members of pressure group Biofuelwatch will stage a protest at an event in London marking the Green Investment Bank's second anniversary, on Tuesday October 28.

Activists want the bank to make a promise not to finance MGT Power's proposed 300MW biomass plant on Teesside. If built, it will be four times larger than the biggest dedicated plant in the UK currently, and protesters say it is expected to process the equivalent of half of the UK's annual wood production each year.

This protest will be the fourth time that the Green Bank has been targeted by environmental campaigners in the past two years. In late 2012 it issued its first big loan to help Drax coal-fired power station partially convert to biomass.
