Beers Timber Holdings acquires Tonge Bridge Timber

5 December 2018

Liverpool based Beers Timber Holdings has announced the completion of the purchase of Tonge Bridge Timber of Bolton.

The family owned Beers group also owns Beers Timber and Building Supplies, MBS Plumbing Supplies and wholesale timber distributor Evans Bellhouse, operating from 15 depots across Merseyside, Wirral, Manchester and Cheshire.

The purchase of Tonge Bridge Timber will increase group turnover to £37m and the enlarged group will employ 160 staff across their depots in the North West. Tonge Bridge Timber, which won the TTJ Awards’ Small Trader of the Year 2018, is an importer and manufacturer of machined timber products, supplying to timber & builders merchants, and large end users in the North of England from its three acre machining facility in Bolton.

“I am very pleased and excited to have completed the purchase of Tonge Bridge Timber, being a family owned business we see many similarities in culture between the two businesses,” said Michael Beer, MD of the Beers Group.

“The purchase will enhance and complement our position as suppliers of quality timber and building materials in the North West. There is great potential to grow the business, and integrate it within our existing businesses.”

The existing management team and staff at Tonge Bridge Timber lead by MD Andrew Broddle will be staying on to run the business.

Previous co-owner Brian Kirkpatrick will ultimately be retiring from the business but is continuing in the short term as a consultant.
