Brady to host 2010 TTJ Awards

9 January 2010

Renowned business woman Karren Brady will be the host and guest speaker at the 2010 TTJ Awards.

Ms Brady first hit the headlines in 1993 when, at the age of 23, she became managing director of Birmingham City, a post she held until last year and which earned her the title “first lady of football”.

She started her career at the advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi, before moving to LBC Radio and then Sports Newspapers. She took over at Birmingham City after it was acquired by the latter’s owner David Sullivan. During her tenure, the club floated on the stock market, achieving a valuation of £25m and making her the youngest managing director of a UK plc. Its takeover last October valued the business at over £80m.

After leaving the club, Ms Brady was appointed a non-executive director of the England 2018 World Cup bid board and she was named as the successor to Margaret Mountford as Alan Sugar’s adviser for the hit BBC TV show The Apprentice.

She is also a non-executive director for Channel 4, Mothercare and Sport England. In 2007 she was named Midlands Business Woman of the Year and she is also an author and much sought-after business and motivational speaker.

“We’ve had some tremendous hosts and guest speakers for the TTJ Awards, but Karren Brady has to be one of the highest profile to date,” said TTJ editor Mike Jeffree. “To say she’s a high achiever is an understatement and securing her for the Awards is a major coup for the TTJ and the timber industry. I’m sure she’ll do a fantastic job for us.”
