Brazil tropical wood exports down, pine up

Tropical sawn timber export volumes from Brazil fell 16% in January to 25,000m3, compared to the same month in 2012, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO).

The value of those exports declined 3.4% to US$14.2m, compared to the same month in 2012.

Total timber export values from Brazil increased 3.2% to US$169.1m.

Tropical plywood registered a 7% drop in volumes to 5,400m3 but values were unchanged.

Sawn pine timber export volumes grew 12.5% to 47,600m3, while the value rose by 6.3% to US$10.3m.

Pine plywood export volumes were up 21.5% to 84,200m3. The shipments were worth US$31m, a 23% growth.
