Declining wood products trade between China and the USA

The value of the wood products trade between China and the US fell 16% in March 2018, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation’s latest market report.

China’s imports dropped 5% to US$840m while exports declined 23% to US$1,050m. However, for Q1 the value of wood products trade between China and the US rose about 9% to US$6.26bn.

China’s imports increased about 6% to US$2.28bn while export value grew 10% to US$3.98bn.

China’s log imports from the US in the first three months of 2018 totalled 1.41 million m3, a year-on-year increase of 7% over the same period of 2017.

China’s sawnwood imports from the US in the first three months of 2018 rose 5% to 709,600m3.
