Demand soars for structural timber

The structural timber sector has seen a record number of orders during the last year, with some businesses’ workloads increasing by 100%.

Those are the findings of the Structural Timber Association (STA), which itself has had a record number of members join since its rebrand from the UK Timber Frame Association to the STA last year.

Fifty new signings include NHBC, Alcor and Crown Timber and have taken the total membership to more than 260.

The STA reports that the sector’s sales have risen by up to 163% on 2013 and 84% in the last three months. This increase is across all structural timber materials, from timber frame to SIPs and CLT.
