Devon refurb wins Gold Award at Wood Awards

A refurbished house in Devon that makes extensive interior use of timber has won this year’s Wood Awards Gold Award.

The top prize, sponsored by Arnold Laver, went to Coastal House, which saw 6a architects re-design the stone house’s interior using French oak and British Douglas fir and pine.

Sussex-based Traditional Oak and Timber Company supplied the wood, while Touchwood Joinery completed the joinery works.

Other winners included the glulam Rievaulx Abbey Visitor Centre & Museum in the commercial & leisure category; hardwood CLT Maggie’s Oldham in the education and public sector category; and Hampshire Passivahus in the Private category.

Small Project was won by Feilden Fowles Studio and the Structural Award saw The Smile come out on top. A feature article on this year’s winners will appear in the December issue of TTJ.
