Firecrews save stock at Arnold Laver warehouse in Sheffield

4 July 2016

The quick actions of firefighters are being credited with preventing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage at an Arnold Laver timber product warehouse in Sheffield.

Six fire crews were initially sent to tackle a blaze at the Arnold Laver warehouse on Oxclose Park Road North, Halfway early last Saturday evening (July 2).

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said two forklift trucks were well alight inside the building which is used to store thousands of tonnes of wood.

“The first crews to arrive at the warehouse worked quickly and professionally to gain access to the building, put out the vehicle fires and prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building,” said Simon Rodgers, Arnold Laver group manager Simon Rodgers.

“There can be little doubt that their actions have prevented many hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage being caused.”

The only other damage, apart from to the forklift trucks, was to a lorry. No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
