Forest Garden fined after worker injury

26 August 2015

The Forest Garden group has been fined £7,000 following an injury sustained to a worker at its Lockerbie site.

Dumfries Sheriff Court heard of failings that led to a worker sustaining a serious injury to his left hand in March 2014 while working at Forest Sawmills Ltd’s premises at Stevens Croft.

The agency worker’s left hand was pulled into a twin band re-saw machine after it made contact with either the powered in-feed roller or the saw blade, causing injuries to his index and middle finger.

Forest Sawmills Ltd pleaded guilty to an offence under Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Regulations 11(1) and (2).

The Health and Safety Executive brought the case.
