German sawmilling association outlines further development plans

6 December 2017

The German Sawmill & Timber Industry Association (DeSH) is to continue expansion of its remit.

At DeSH’s general meeting in Würzburg on November 23, which marked the association’s fifth anniversary, it outlined plans to sharpen its profile and initiate further developments in the year ahead.

While initially raw wood availability was the focus of the association’s work, the range of topics has widened considerably – from wood utilisation and energy to continuing education.

A major focus over the next year will be the start of formal merger talks with the sawmilling division of the Association of the Wood Industry and Plastics Processing Bavaria-Thuringia (VHK). A roadmap for the merger will see both associations’ members consulted and a target for completion on January 1, 2019.

The move would effectively bring into membership sawmills in the Bavaria region, improving DeSH’s representation of the German sawmilling industry.

DeSH president Carsten Doehring and vice president Steffen Rathke as well as the executive committee were unanimously re-elected at the general meeting.
