Key figure in Welsh timber industry dies

David Jenkins, a key figure in the Welsh woodland, timber and farming sector, died on August 11.

Mr Jenkins, director of the public sector partnership and charity Coed Cymru for 27 years, will be remembered primarily for his role in championing native woodland and bringing innovative ideas into public policy and mainstream practice.

He facilitated and initiated significant advances across both the agricultural and the timber technology industries.

Mr Jenkins helped bring ideas such as continuous cover forestry into Welsh policy and was the source of numerous innovations to increase the economic value of Welsh timber.

Mr Jenkins was awarded an MBE for services for forestry and more recently received the Sylva Trophy from the Royal Forestry Society.
