Laidlaw Limited goes into administration

24 January 2020

Duff & Phelps Ltd were appointed Joint Administrators of Laidlaw Limited on 17 January 2020, the company was then closed with all 61 staff across four locations being made redundant.

Laidlaw was one of the leading suppliers of architectural hardware, access control, integrated doorsets, balustrades and range of architectural products across a broad band of product categories.

The Handrail and Balustrades division of the company was sold to Komfort Partitioning Limited. The Locking Systems division was bought by UAP Limited.

“Laidlaw experienced cash difficulties as a result of delays in key projects starting. Despite exploring many options to ensure the survival of the company, the continued drain on working capital resources ultimately left the directors with no option but to place the company into administration.” Said Matthew Ingram, joint administrator. “Our objective was to identify a buyer for the Company and its assets in order to provide continuity of service for customers, suppliers and employees. Naturally we are delighted that we were able to secure a future for two divisions of the business. We will continue to assist the employees impacted by the closure of the parts of the business that sadly could not be saved despite our best efforts.”

Originally established in 1876, Laidlaw has been providing architectural products to the UK construction industry for over 140 years. It had four locations in the UK including Bristol, Gateshead, Sheffield and their Willenhall HQ in the West Midlands.
