A Bradford timber business is to receive £500,000 of investment after a £1m acquisition of the company by building supplies group the Myers Group.

Commercial property estate agency Ernest Wilson sold Baildon Timber to the Huddersfield-based Myers Group, which employs 350 people across West Yorkshire.

The fresh investment in Baildon will pay for an expansion of the stock range, a new and larger shop and front counter and a full refurbishment of the site and buildings.

“Baildon Timber is the perfect fit for us and there are clear synergies between our two family businesses, particularly as we both serve a customer base that is largely made up of small construction companies,” said James Berry, managing director of the Myers group.

“The acquisition meets our aspirations for growth in the timber sector, as well as expanding our geographic footprint into the Baildon and east Bradford area of Yorkshire.”

Myers plans to create three new jobs immediately at Baildon Timber, with further hires scheduled for the coming months.
