A new apartment building in the US has been declared the world’s tallest mass timber building.

The 25-story Ascent, designed by Korb + Associates Architects, is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is 86.6 m tall, just over a metre taller than the previous world’s tallest mass timber structure in Norway.

The 259-apartment building comprises concrete base levels and concrete stair and lift shafts, with glulam columns and beams and cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors making up the majority fo the structure. It boasts a glass exterior, while many timber features have been left exposed on the interior.
