A 7% growth in new home registrations was recorded by the NHBC in the first quarter.

NHBC’s latest statistics bulletin shows 33,816 new homes were registered during the period (2013: 31,739).

Q1 new home registrations in London also grew 6% on a year ago. This follows a record 2013 when housebuilding volumes in the capital were the highest for a generation.

An NHBC breakdown on how other cities are performing shows Birmingham (3,406 new home registrations), Manchester (2,625) and Bristol (1,570) at the top of the list.

“Our new figures show further sustained growth and consolidation in the UK housebuilding industry following a strong year last year,” said NHBC chief executive Mike Quinton.

“Over the past 15 months we have seen a genuine return of confidence to the industry as builders strive to meet the growing demand for new homes that the country clearly needs.”
