Norvik delivers Christmas tree to Foreign Office

18 December 2017

Companies in the Norvik Timber Industries Group have been instrumental in delivering a 6m-high Christmas tree from Latvia to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at Lancaster House in London.

The tree delivery was used to launch Latvia’s centenary celebrations in the UK.

The tree lights were switched on during a ceremony on December 4 when foreign secretary Boris Johnson and Latvian ambassador Baiba Braže jointly highlighted the historical ties between the countries.

The tree was delivered from a nursery in the Latvian Valka District by Byko Lat to Riga where it was loaded onto Norvik Shipping’s vessel, M/V Mosvik. Following a five-day voyage, the tree was delivered to Lancaster House by Baltic Distribution Ltd, via its port at Creeksea.

“It was a great pleasure to be involved in this project and it is a fitting event because the tree was carried on the route of the first liner service from Latvia to the UK,” said Dean Border, managing director of Baltic Distribution.

“The line currently carries over 100,000m3 of timber per annum between the two countries, marking a long-established and enduring link between our two countries,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Embassy of Latvia, the Foreign Office and Norvik Timber Industries.
