Obituary: Mike King

2 June 2015

Mike King, SCM UK’s communications consultant, died on May 22 aged 67 after an incurable illness.

From a young age Mr King had always been a leading member of the UK woodworking industry, having trained as a design draughtsman in mechanical engineering and soon after serving as apprentice at Wadkin Ltd of Leicester.

From the start he demonstrated his knowledge and enthusiasm, also being recognized as Apprentice of the Year in what at the time was the most important UK manufacturer and distributor in its sector.

He then transferred his technical and commercial skills to Shubert and lastly to SCM. In the early Nineties, together with other partners, he formed SCM GB (1992) Ltd and Tekna Services Ltd creating the foundations for SCM Group (UK) in the year 2000.

He served here a further 10 years as sales director helping the group to grow and flourish. His style was always decisive and customer orientated, flying the company flag with a firm determination.

While his illness had surprised him soon after retiring, Mr King kept positive and still worked as a communication consultant for SCM Group.
