October strong month for new housing

4 December 2014

October was the strongest month for new housing registrations since June 2011.

NHBC figures show that 13,950 homes were registered in October (11,151 private sector; 2,799 public sector). This is the highest monthly figure since June 2011, when 14,565 home were registered.

Registrations in October were also 10% higher than the 12,672 in October 2013, boosted in part by the 539 new units registered during the third phase of the Battersea Power Stastion redevelopment.

In the rolling quarter from August to October, registrations increased 14% on the same period last year, with a total of 37,140 homes. During the period private sector registrations increased by 20% but public sector registrations fell by 7%.

NHBC chief executive Mike Quinton said the October figures showed that UK housebuilding continued to improve.

“While this is positive news, we know that the industry is working from a historically low base so there is still much to do to ensure this momentum continues,” he said.
