Joanne Nixon has been appointed as site manager of Intelligent Door Solutions’ Thornaby-based door set manufacturing facility, 20 years after joining the business straight from school.

During her time with the company, Ms Nixon has learned her trade working on the sales counter, as an external representative, business development manager, key account manager, and in several other high-level positions.

Having spent her entire career in the industry, she is a joinery expert and is ideally placed to lead the manufacturing team as it enters an exciting new phase. As manager of Intelligent Door Solutions’ flagship depot, Ms Nixon will now oversee all operational and administrative requirements.

“Intelligent Door Solutions is an innovative business and I’m proud to be leading the Thornaby operation,” she said. “We’re ideally placed to meet the increasing demand for quality fire doors and help create safe buildings. It’s been a great journey up until this point and I’m excited to see what happens next.”

Intelligent Door Solutions, a specialist division of Arnold Laver, has three manufacturing facilities located across the country. The company acquired the assets of a site at Thornaby in 2019 to increase its capacity and geographical coverage.

Its 80,000ft2 Thornaby facility specialises in the production of timber fire and acoustic doors, door sets and screens, which are used nationwide in the commercial, residential, education and leisure markets.

Arnold Laver also provide a consultancy service through its Fire Door Inspection Business, which helps to advise owners and landlords of commercial, hotel and healthcare facilities, about fire-door safety and compliance.

“I’m delighted Joanne has agreed to take the reins at Thornaby,” said Patrick Guest, managing director at Arnold Laver. “It’s great that we have such talented people ready to step up to senior management roles. I hope it encourages others within the business to see that they are the future of our organisation and its success.”

“I’ve worked with Joanne for many of the past 20 years and know that this is a great appointment for the company,” added David Oldfield, joinery director at Arnold Laver. “We’ve built a superb joinery proposition, with the capacity to manufacture more than five thousand door sets, door kits, doors, and screens each week. We’re looking forward to the next chapter and further expanding our product provision with Joanne and the Thornaby team.”
