Premier strengthens its Welsh presence with West Wales acquisition

Premier Forest Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing timber groups, continues to strengthen its distribution and processing capacity with the acquisition of West Wales based timber importer Merlwood Timber Ltd.

It is the eighth acquisition for the group in the last seven years.

The series of acquisitions which started in 2011 has seen turnover grow from £53m to a projected £136m in the current financial year, making the group one of the leading independent, vertically-integrated timber groups in the UK.

Merlwood Timber Ltd, formed in 1997, operates from a three acre site in Haverfordwest and other strategic dockside locations within the UK. Its West Wales site operates a full in-house machining and treatment facility.

Merlwood supplies imported and domestically produced solid timber. It traditionally supplies timber and builders merchants and large timber consumers throughout South and West Wales from stock and direct from the quay side.

“The acquisition of Merlwood Timber Ltd gives Premier the opportunity to strengthen its distribution capacity in Wales and to expand its group sales revenue and geographic reach,” said Terry Edgell, CEO and co-founder of Premier Forest Group.

“The Merlwood team bring with them additional customer and supplier relationships and their capacity to machine timber in-house, which adds to the value and service we can now offer to our own group’s customer base.”
