29 July 2016

Latest house-building stats from NHBC shows there was continued industry confidence in the run-up to the UK’s EU referendum.

Private sector new home registrations were up 6% in Q2 to 31,753 compared to a year ago, but the public sector showed a 13% reverse with 9,468 new registrations.

The overall number represents a 1% increase for Q2 on a year ago, making it the strongest quarter since 2007.

Regionally it was a mixed picture with registrations growing 37% in the South East and 34% in the North East, but declining by 30% in Wales and 29% in London.

New home completions for the rolling 12 months July 2015 – June 2016 also increased by 6% when compared to the previous 12 months.

NHBC chief executive Mike Quinton said latest statistics show the industry continued to consolidate on strong growth in registrations over recent years.

“These registrations reflect continued industry confidence in the run-up to the EU Referendum at the end of June.”
