Russian log exports down 23%

Russia’s export of sawn goods totalled 4.1m tons Q1 2020 - down 7.5% year-on-year. Log exports decreased by 23.8% to 2.89m m3.

In the same period plywood exports increased by 11.4% year-on-year to make 735,300m3 at a value of $283.9m, down 5.5% year-on-year.

Wood pulp exports in Q1 2020 amounted to 555,900 tons, up 6.4% year-on-year generating $231.2m, down 21.4% year-on-year. Newsprint exports totalled 298,300tons, down 1.4% year-on-year, for $104.4m, down 32.9% year-on-year.

Sawn goods exports in March totalled 1.52million tons, down 11.5% year-on-year and up 20.6% month-on-month worth $343.9m, down 11.1% year-on-year and up 7.9% month-on-month.

Logs export totalled 1.28 million m3, down 7.1% year-on-year but up 55.3% month-on-month. In terms of value, it decreased by 13.2% year-on-year and surged by 66.6% month-on-month to make $91.3m.

Plywood export in March, made 265,300 m3, up 11.7% year-on-year and up 6.2% month-on-month. Increasing by 1.3% year-on-year and by 9.7% month-on-month making to $105.9m.

Wood pulp exports were 191,100 tons, up 6.3% year-on-year and 10.1% month-on-month. Wood pulp export values decreased by 19.9% year-on-year but increased by 3.2% month-on-month to make $78.3m.

Newsprint export grew by 19.5% year-on-year and by 14.7% month-on-month to make 109,200 tons in terms of tonnage. Sales value decrease by 14.9% year-on-year but up 14.5% month-to-month to $38m.
