Snows Timber becomes independent after MBO

25 March 2019

Snows Timber has announced the completion of a management buy out led by managing director Ian Church.

The business, previously part of the Bradfords Group, will now be independently owned by the current management team - Ian Church, Craig Willoughby, supply chain and operations director, and Adam Cray, finance director.

They had their bid for a management buyout approved by The Bradfords Group in January 2019 and have since been busy completing the deal, finalising it on March 20.

The move follows the sale of the Snows Timber Glastonbury site to Sydenhams in February. As part of the sale agreement, Snows cannot trade in the counties of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset for a period of 12 months.

The new ownership team said being independent would enable the company to make quicker decisions, allowing it to review processes, make investments in the right areas and be more competitive within the market.

“This is great news for us and for Snows’ customers,” said Mr Church.

“It enables us to create a truly agile business and to continue investing in our customer service proposition. We aim to be the very best in our sector. What excites us the most is the fact we are now truly independent.”

Snows remains a national importer, processor and distributor of timber & timber products through its Andover and Mansfield Distribution Centres. The National Sales Office in Towcester also now becomes the new Snows head office.

The reorganisation of the business, which started at the beginning of last year, is designed to optimise timber supply, streamline processes and strengthen Snows’ position in the timber market.
