Stricken timber cargo ship resumes journey

8 February 2016

A cargo ship which ran into trouble off the coast of Spain carrying 3,600 tonnes of African timber has resumed its journey to Le Havre, France.

The Panama-registered ship listed badly in heavy seas last week after reporting a power failure, requiring the crew to be rescued.

The ship, which drifted for five days, was successfully towed to the port of Bilbao, where it has been successfully righted.

The vessel, also carrying digging equipment, is now on track for Le Havre. The timber is believed to have come from Gabon in West Africa.
