11 February 2014

Sweden’s exports of sawn and planed softwood rose in November.

Export volumes for the month were 2% higher than in November 2012, according to Statistics Sweden, although for the 11 months to November volumes were 3% down on the previous year.

During the 11-month period shipments to Asia rose by 21.5%, with sawn whitewood showing the largest increase at 37.6%.

The improving US housing market was reflected in a 52% increase in volumes, with sawn whitewood rising by 70.9%.

Shipments to the UK rose by 1% but Europe's demand trend was generally negative and, overall, exports to Europe were down 5.2%.
