Tallest timber tower project unveiled in Australia

Software giant Atlassian is to build a world-beating 40-storey hybrid timber HQ building in Sydney, Australia.

The build system planned is mass timber – cross laminated timber (CLT) – with a steel external structure.

Atlassian said the commercial hybrid timber building would be the tallest of its kind in the world and is planned to be built by 2025, when it will house 4,000 Atlassian staff.

New York architects SHoP has designed the project in partnership with Australia’s BVN.

CLT was chosen for the project because of its sustainability credentials, allowing Atlassian to avoid using large volumes of steel and concrete.

The building is designed to operate completely from renewable energy.
