Taylor Lane wins timber frame contract for army homes project

13 July 2018

Taylor Lane Timber Frame Ltd has been awarded a contract by Lovell, part of UK construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall Group plc, to provide timber frame kits for 450 new homes for service personnel and their families, relocating from Germany to Wiltshire as part of the Army Basing Programme (ABP).

The Salisbury Plain Service Family Accommodation (SFA) Scheme is one of the company’s largest-ever projects and will see Taylor Lane Timber Frame design, manufacture and deliver timber frame kits for erection on two of the three sites, Bulford and Larkhill.

The Hereford-based manufacturer is supplying its 140mm timber frame system with pre-insulated panels for three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached houses and bungalows.  Construction is underway on the first service family accommodation site at Bulford.

Lovell is working to complete 917 homes by May 2020, with Taylor Lane handing over 13 plots per week.

“Intelligent selection in supply chain assembly is essential in a project of this magnitude,” said Lovell major projects director John Leary.

“This stands across the trades but is clearly crucial on key packages such as timber frame. The speed of build on the SFA scheme means that timber frame and thus an element of off-site manufacture was a given, but the choice of provider is the challenging piece.”
