Timber Expo seminar details released

21 May 2015

Timber Expo has released details of its wide-ranging seminar programme for this year’s event as part of UK Construction Week at Birmingham NEC this October.

TRADA will co-ordinate the Timber Focus Seminars, providing three days (October 6-8) of seminar sessions across a broad spectrum of industry trends and issues.

The opening session on October 6 will focus on increasing timber specifications, looking at the issues around securing specifications and the tools that exist to improve the process – such as TRADA’s new National Structural Timber Specification document, which will be launched in September. The afternoon session will look at the opportunities of the growing self-build market.

The second day begins with a discussion about pushing the boundaries of what is possible with wood, with input from architects Waugh Thistleton and Cambridge University.

The final day will see sessions on “Wooden Cities”, exploring the possibility of constructing whole towns and cities entirely from wood, with examples from around the world including Scandinavia and the UK.

Timber Expo will also showcase the 2015 Wood Awards shortlist awards shortlist, as well as a session on this year’s Wood in Architecture awards, which will be followed by the announcement of the winners.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to bring together professionals from around the industry to explore the exciting and creative developments taking place in the timber sector currently,” said Rupert Scott, membership and marketing manager at TRADA.

“Timber Expo is the most important event on the UK construction calendar dedicated exclusively to timber,” said Richard Morey, group events director at Media 10, the event company producing UK Construction Week.

“With the support of our event partners including TRADA and the Structural Timber Association, I think we have pulled together a really useful and informative programme of content that will challenge, educate and inspire visitors in equal measure.”

UK Construction Week brings together nine shows under one roof, uniting 1,000 exhibitors with an expected audience of 55,000 visitors.
