Timber façade for Google’s new London HQ to be largest in the world

21 January 2020

Hess Timber is developing the façade system for the new Google HQ in London together with Josef Gartner GmbH, a leading global manufacturer of custom-made façades.

Behind what will be the world's largest wooden façade – 23,300m² total area – a new company HQ for around 7,000 employees is being built.

The design of the Google HQ was provided by BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and Heatherwick Studio, who were already responsible for the architecture of the Google HQ in Mountain View, California.

Currently, various mock-ups on a scale of 1:1 are located on the test site of Josef Gartner GmbH in Gundelfingen, Germany. The experience gained from these stress tests is important and necessary to gain insights for later use in the project.
