TRADA conference inspires construction community

29 November 2019

Around 140 construction professionals attended the TRADA Better Timber Buildings conference in London on November 27.

The conference, designed to “educate, inspire and empower architects, engineers, suppliers and clients to design and build better timber buildings” was a follow up to last year’s successful event, which, according to TRADA chairman Nick Milestone “created more attention than we thought”.

This year’s conference had a strong focus on engineered wood products, particularly cross-laminated timber (CLT) and LVL and speakers represented a broad cross section of the construction industry, from client to manufacturer.

Topics covered included investigating moisture ingress in CLT, a look at Heatherwick Studio’s Maggie’s Centre in Leeds, updates to TRADA’s Eurocode 5 manual and the structural fire safety design of mass timber buildings.

A full report on the conference will appear in the next issue of TTJ.
