TRADA’S Better Timber Buildings conference returns
17 July 2019Following the success of its Better Timber Buildings conference last year, TRADA is running the event again this November.
The one-day conference, which is intended to educate, inspire and empower architects, engineers, suppliers and clients to design and build better timber buildings will be held at the Royal Geographical Society in London on November 27.
Sam Elliot, The Office Group’s development director, and Nick Ling, Heatherwick Studio’s technical design lead, will launch the event. Mr Elliot will provide a client’s thought-provoking perspective, while Mr Ling will elaborate on the outstanding design work behind the new Maggie's Yorkshire.
“We intend to build on the momentum created by last year’s conference,” said Rupert Scott, TRADA’s membership and marketing manager.
“There are many reasons why we should embrace timber in construction, the most important of which is its remarkable ability to sequester carbon, yet there are still plenty of opportunities and issues to address – and rightly so.
“The Better Timber Buildings conference is TRADA’s platform to challenge preconceptions around timber, provide much-needed guidance on current barriers to use, and whet the appetite with some truly outstanding timber buildings.”
TRADA will unite necessary discussion around the durability and fire performance of timber with exciting forward-thinking concepts around healthy buildings and offsite construction. Most of the speakers invited have undertaken methodical research in their specialty, enabling them to impart knowledge based on empirical evidence.
The conference is supported by an exhibition including Rothoblaas, Sherpa, Gilmour & Aitken, STEICO, ZÜBLIN, Pollmeier, BM TRADA and STMAG.
