Travis Perkins merchanting chain grows sales 16.6% in Q1

24 April 2014

Travis Perkins plc has recorded a 16.6% first quarter like-for-like sales growth in its general merchanting division.

The company said its core Travis Perkins merchanting chain performed well throughout the quarter as a result of continued market share gains and marked volume growth.

An overall sales growth of 12.7% was recorded across the group, with the consumer division, consisting of Wickes and Toolstation, experiencing a 6.9% like-for-like growth.

The company said the positive momentum built in 2013 had continued into 2014, but emphasised that its strong growth was in part the result of very weak comparatives owing to unseasonably cold weather across much of the country a year ago.

"Our priorities remain to accelerate innovation of our customer propositions, expand and optimise our property network, exploit our scale advantage and prioritise investments throughout the portfolio," said chief executive John Carter.
