TTJ Awards see James Latham win top trophy

James Latham won the coveted Timber Trader of the Year award at the 19th TTJ Awards on September 24.

The event at The Landmark in London proved to be an enjoyable day as writer and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth entertained about 330 timber industry guests before awards were presented to recognise excellence and best practice in the timber products industry.

Softwood Trader of the Year, sponsored by Arch Timber Protection, was won by Arbor Forest Products, while the Hardwood Trader of the Year, sponsored by Vandecasteele Houtimport, saw Timbmet take the trophy.

The Panels Trader of the Year, sponsored by Coillte Panel Products, was won by Panel Supplies. International Plywood won the Plywood Trader of the Year, sponsored by W Howard.

The Flooring Trader of the Year category, sponsored by Taylor Maxwell, was won by James Latham, while Hawthorn Timber took the Small Timber Business of the Year trophy, sponsored by Arbor Forest Products.

Judging proved very difficult in the judged award categories due to the high standard of entries.

Excellence in Marketing, sponsored by Combilift, was scooped by Metsa Wood for its Plan B campaign. Snows Timber was highly commended by the judges for its Back on the Map campaign

The Career Development Award under-25 category, sponsored by Glennon Brothers, was scooped by Dominic Manfredini of James Latham, while the over-25 category saw Dan Doyley of T Brewer & Co take the award.

In the Timber Innovation Award (innovative product development category), sponsored by TRADA and Timber Expo, Tweddle Engineering was the winner for its Excalibur R smart incising technology for round timber. Danzer UK was highly commended by the judges for its 3D veneer.

The Timber Innovation Award (market development category) was won by Arch Timber Protection for its BARamine preservative application technology.

Coast Eco Timber emerged triumphant in the Environmental Achievement Award, sponsored by Danzer UK, for its work in harvesting submerged tropical hardwoods in a Panama reservoir.

Hess Timber GmbH took the trophy for Achievement in Engineered Timber, sponsored by MBM Timber, for the glulam Energy to Waste Plant in Leeds, while Website of the Year, sponsored by Epicor, saw Hoppings Softwood Products win the award.
