TV architect George Clarke is TTJ Awards host

Architect, writer, lecturer and TV presenter George Clarke is host and guest speaker for the TTJ Awards 2014.

The event is also being held in a new venue, London's historic Landmark Hotel, on September 25.

Mr Clarke studied architecture at Newcastle University and University College London. He now heads the multi-disciplinary practice, George Clarke + Partners, which has been involved in award-winning buildings in the UK and abroad, undertaking architecture, design, project management, construction and property development.

He is also an ambassador for the Prince's Foundation, the organisation set up by the Prince of Wales to encourage the development of sustainable communities and "buildings that will last generations".

After making three successful series of Build a New Life on Channel 5, Mr Clarke launched The Home Show on Channel 4, followed by Restoration Man, The Great British Property Scandal and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces, leading to his billing as the channel's 'face of architecture'.

Through both his company and his TV programmes, Mr Clarke says his aim is to "make architecture popular and accessible for everyone".

"TTJ prides itself on the calibre of its Award speakers and Mr Clarke has great credentials for the role," said TTJ editor Mike Jeffree. "With his architectural, construction and broadcasting background, I'm sure he'll be both entertaining and have some interesting and informative messages for the Awards audience who, after all, forms a key part of his profession's supply chain."

The Awards' new venue, The Landmark, near Marylebone, was the last of London's great Victorian railway hotels and was originally called The Great Central. Designed by architect Robert Ellis, it was built in 1899, with a key feature being the vast central courtyard, which was big enough for horse-drawn carriages to deliver guests to the heart of the building. It recently featured in the BBC's Sherlock series.
