Belgian international hardwood importer Vandecasteele has bought a new fleet of Volvo trucks, incorporating a state-of-the-art computer tracking system, at a cost of £1.2m.

The company has invested in 16 new vehicles and decked them all out in its new livery with the red V for Vandecasteele.

"We now have a brand new, more economic ergonomic and reliable fleet that will enable us to serve our customers better," said export manager Genevieve Standaert. "They are also more comfortable and safer, including such technology as a sophisticated collision avoidance system, so we'll have happier and, as a result, more efficient drivers."

The trucks, she added, will also save the company money on fuel and help shrink its carbon footprint.

"Their fuel consumption is about 5 ltrs per 100km better than our previous vehicles and emissions 5-15% better," said Ms Standaert.

The investment gives the company an all new fleet, with three more vehicles than it used to have. They will travel acorss Europe.

"And the factory-installed Dynafleet computer system will help with routing better and calculate when they will arrive at their destination, with our dispatcher following their progress," said Ms Standaert.
