Vandecasteele completes major storage extension

1 November 2018

Vandecasteele Houtimport has added an extra 4ha to its existing 16ha of storage facilities at Aalbeke.

The 37,000m2 extension marks the end of a busy two-year construction project for the project.

In addition to the new warehouse the company decided to replace all the old roof sheets - more than 100,000m2, which has made it completely asbestos-free. At the same time 340 solar panels were installed, which will help to reduce the company’s ecological footprint. Part of the warehouse also received a makeover: the steel construction was sandblasted and completely painted.

The expansion in Aalbeke also means that substantial investments are being made in new staff and new forklift trucks. The stock in Antwerp quay is being phased out and all orders will be picked from one central location in Aalbeke.

“At the moment, the final touches are being made to the landscape surrounding our facility, which will once again return to the modern sleek look synonymous with Vandecasteele Houtimport,” said Geneviève Standaert, export manager.
“During this busy period, the focus on our customers has always been a priority,” she added. “We have given our VDC internet portal a new update so that our customers can consult the stock in more detail.”
