Wood pellet producers look east

3 November 2014

Wood pellet exports to Europe from North America reached a plateau at the beginning of the year and have started to decline, according to the North American Wood Fibre Review.

Exports peaked at the end of 2013 at 1.4 million tonnes and fell to 1.3 million tonnes for each of the first two quarters of 2014.

The new expanding markets for western Canada are Japan and South Korea leading to a 25% fall in exports to Europe from Canada. US exports to Europe were up 10%.
