Zambia prepares to end timber export ban

11 January 2013

Zambia is preparing to lift its ban on raw timber exports, according to media reports in the country.

The country’s natural resources minister is reported to have revealed the news during the launch of Zambia’s tree-planting progamme.

It is understood the ban will be lifted with conditions attached. The ban was introduced in response to Zambia’s high level of deforestation, principally because of use of wood for fuel.
