Indonesian forest concessions look for FSC certification

Indonesian forest concessions are have signalled their interest to achieve FSC forest management certification, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation.

Eight concessions, including PT Dwima Jaya Utama and PT Wapoga Mutiara Timber Unit, have signed up to a programme conducted by the Borneo Initiative Foundation. In total they represent 815,670ha of forest n Kalimantan, Maluku and Papua.

Currently only 30% (10.8 million ha) of forests are certified in Indonesia.

There are five FSC-certified concessions, representing 1 million ha of forest.
