It’s a case of blink and you miss the tool change on the 40FX, the latest model in SCM Group’s Accord CNC machining centre range.

The model features the appropriately named Mach 5, a new chain-style tool magazine. It is capable of holding up to 48 large double profile tools and has a changer shuttle capable of switching them in just five seconds.

The machine’s table and bars can also be configured quickly, and can hold down any type of component with suction cups or clamps.

The “Matic” version has automatically held-down and independently driven supports and bars, making it, says SCM “ideal for machining pre-finished door and window frames”.

The Accord 40FX has a new mobile “gantry-style” structure to achieve maximum precision on large dimensioned machining areas and components. The new routing and machining heads have three to five interpolating axes and, says SCM, are designed for “any machining that requires accuracy and high stock removal”.

The 40FX also includes the EcoPowerPack function and can be equipped with the FX-MATIC machining area for processing pre-finished door and window components. Table machining and component positioning is controlled by SCM’s Maestro software and the FX Worktable is designed to ensure flexibility when using modules for clamping components, comprising aluminium bars which move in the ‘X’ direction on ground guides and recirculating bearing shoes.

Vacuum is conveyed between bars and suction cups without external pipes and the bar profile’s rigidity controls the pneumatic hold-down devices when machining window and solid wood components.

SCM will be in Halls 11, 16, 24 & 25.
