The installation of an AXYZ 4008 CNC router has helped Worcester toymaker Cougar Craft diversify and expand its business.
The company invested in the technology, supplied by AXYZ Automation (UK), to replace a heavy overhead router which was not automatic.
The 4008 has doubled output and reduced turnaround times, with blanks now taking three hours to produce instead of three days. It has also made possible the manufacture of complex shapes for wooden toys and models.
Cougar Craft, which also makes accessories for the handicapped market and tables and trays for baby high chairs, is also using the 4008 to branch out into the sign-making industry. The company said it would not have considered sign-making before installing the machine.
The AXYZ 4008 CNC range is available from about £25,000.
