An Approved Treater Scheme launched by the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA) aims to help stamp out premature failure of timber components such as window frames and fence posts.
Such cases, says the BWPDA, damage timber’s image and help competitors in the plastic, steel and concrete sectors.
The new scheme places emphasis on health, safety and environmental protection at treatment plants. Timber supplied by approved pre-treaters will be marked to ensure full traceability.
Treatment companies admitted to the scheme will already have achieved QA certification from a UKAS accredited body and regular inspections will ensure they keep up to standard.
