Barbara Cartwright of importer/merchant AB Lewis officially succeeded Ian Menzies as president of the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society at its AGM last week.

Mrs Cartwright has been associated with the TTBS since 1994. She became vice-president last year and before that had served as president of the organisation’s Northwest (formerly Liverpool) division. Richard Bagnall of Robbins Timber of Bristol was elected vice-president.

Addressing the annual TTBS lunch after the AGM, Mrs Cartwright thanked former TTBS president Barry Lewis and Paul Snape of the Northwest TTBS for the support they had given her, and thanked TTBS general manager Malcolm Job for his hard work and and advice.

She also praised the dedication of the Society’s committee.

In his final president’s newsletter, Ian Menzies thanked Mr Job and the TTBS area committees for their support during his tenure. He also urged “some of the larger [timber] companies” to write a cheque for the TTBS “once in a while”.
