Solid wood furniture manufacturer Ducal has installed an energy efficient air compressor to offset the effect of the government’s climate change levy.

The Ingersoll-Rand ML55 air compressor fitted with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) energy-saving system will shave up to 40% off electricity bills at Ducal’s Hampshire headquarters.

This will meet targets specified in the levy, scheduled for introduction this month.

In Ducal’s previous set-up, the 86kW compressor ran 24 hours a day, five-and-a-half days a week, resulting in electricity bills of around £17,000 per year.

Ingersoll’s VFD system can be installed as an upgrade for its compressors already in service.
