A Surrey-based independent DIY retailer says the installation of a KoolKut vertical panel saw is enabling it to better compete against the large chains.

The investment in the KK16 saw at Cornmeter DIY, of Godalming, has also allowed the company to simplify its stock and provide a more flexible service to customers.

Cornmeter has dispensed with ordering four-by-two and four-by-four MDF sheets, previously cut by an ageing panel saw, and now orders eight-by-fours and cuts sheets to customer requirements. The company says this has changed customer behaviour, with self-employed builders now typically leaving a list of requirements and returning later in the day to collect the materials.

Other benefits cited by Cornmeter include the machine’s smaller footprint and its ability to be operated by one person instead of two or three people with the old saw.

The Koolkut KK16 range, supplied by Silchester-based Sagatech Industries Ltd, is available from under £4,000.
