Crompton Controls has supplied braking and blade tracking technology to help Arnold Laver Timber World comply with PUWER 98 regulations.
Wakefield-based Crompton, an alternating current motor control manufacturer, provided brake injection and blade tracking systems for all of Arnold Laver’s sites.
Many of the locations have band-saws up to 22kW in operation and required automatic blade tracking to comply with the legislation.
Automatic blade tracking allows the main motor to run up in Star Speed while the blade is tracked into position on the flywheels. While in track mode, the motor will not be able to run at full speed – viewed by Arnold Laver as essential on its larger saws.
Crompton manufactured brake product requirements for all machines, including cross-cutting units, dimension and rip saws, planers, thicknessers, band-saws and the larger band-saws up to 55kW. The installation was completed within four weeks.
Meanwhile, Crompton has appointed Fenay Machine Safety as its latest Motor Control authorised dealer.
Fenay, which has offices and workshop premises in Huddrsfield, was Crompton’s first machinery dealer in 2001. It will open a third site on the Isle of Man shortly.
