The letters NG in the name of Wintersteiger’s DSB Twinhead NG bandsaw stand for ‘new generation’ and, says the company, emphasise the level of innovation on the new machine .
The model builds on the market success of the DSM Singlehead and is aimed at a number of sectors, including door, windows, glulam, pencil slat and even ski makers, plus sawmillers who require a secondary processing machine.
Its sawing units are arranged in parallel and have a cutting width of up to 310mm and block height range up to 165mm. Feed speed is variable up to 45m/min.
“Customers have the option of Stellite or carbide blades, with a cutting kerf starting at 1mm,” said a Wintersteiger spokesperson. “The driven top and bottom feed rollers guarantee continuous block feeding and a hard chrome planted support table adds to stability.”
The DSB Twinhead NG costs €170,000 but, said the spokesperson, that compares with €100,000 for an equivalent single head thin blade bandsaw that gives half the output. The new model is also designed to be combined in a series to create a “complete production system”.
Another innovation was Wintersteiger’s X-clean sawblade design. This features cut-outs to the back of the blade which reduce the amount of dust retained at the cutting edge by up to 92%, resulting in less abrasion to the lamella, a better finish and longer blade life.
